You will be picked up from one of the meeting points and driven to the picturesque Thorsmörk valley, a mountain ridge situated in the south of Iceland between the glaciers Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. You will be driven to this remote valley through glacial rivers and rugged roads in a modified 4×4 vehicle known as an Icelandic super jeep.
En route to Þórsmörk, there will be a stop at the mighty and picturesque waterfall, Seljalandsfoss. You will also be passing the Gígjökull glacier lagoon where the effects of the famous Eyjafjallajökull eruption of 2010 can be observed. The landscape in this region is like no other and offers plenty of spectacular photo opportunities.
From Básar cabin, in the heart of Þórsmörk, you will be hiking to Fimmvörðuháls. See the two craters, Magni and Móði, formed by this infamous eruption. The new lava, large craters, and glacier views along with the surrounding mountains and vibrant colours make this a truly unparalleled hiking experience.
The elevation gain is between 700-800 meters and length approximately 14kms in total. The Þórsmörk -Fimmvörðuháls hike, though challenging, is a must-do for all outdoor enthusiasts and adventure lovers.
