Skaftafell is located 327km (203 miles) from Reykjavík. It can be reached by car in approximately 4 hours.

Meet your guide at the designated point at the scheduled time. Enjoy a 15-minute drive from Skaftafell national park to the Virkisjökull glacier. Take in the spectacular scenery during the drive and admire the impressive mountains that line the southern edge of the Vatnajökull glacier glide past your window.
Negotiate the spectacular but easy tracks of the Virkisjökull glacier, the largest icecap in Europe. Enjoy a short hike along the glacier valley as your guide explains to you the unique features of the retreating paths of Falljökull and Virkisjökull glaciers and their surroundings. Glacier Wonders is a superb glacier hiking tour taking you into the magnificent ice-world of Falljökull glacier, a tongue of the mighty Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe.
Strap on your crampons (spiked shoes) once you reach the edge of the Virkisjökull glacier and make your way up the icy but easily accessible slopes. As you climb, you will be mesmerized by the surreal surroundings. Take in the incredible ice formations and crevasses; learn about how they form and how the glacier continually reshapes itself.
As you approach the awe-inspiring peak, observe how the ancient ice falls hundreds of meters off the mountain top below.
After the hike, you will be taken back to the meeting point, from where you can make your own way back to the hotel.

Skaftafell is located 327km from Reykjavík. The nearest towns to Skaftafell are Kirkjubæjarklaustur, 69km to the west and Höfn, 130km to the east.
You are advised to bring warm outdoor clothing, waterproof jacket and pants, headwear and gloves. Good hiking shoes are recommended. Sturdy hiking shoes, waterproof jacket and pants can be rented.
This tour is approximately 3 hours, with about 1 hour on the ice.
